Chinese New Year menu at Tomo Izakaya

In celebration of the upcoming Lunar New Year, Tomo Izakaya is introducing specially curated Japanese-inspired Chinese New Year set menus, offering patrons a different dining experience.

Unlike the usual set courses offered in restaurants, the Chinese New Year set menus at Tomo Izakaya features at least eight course authentic Japanese dishes which are meant to be shared among friends and family. IMG_7937

All the sets come with appetizers, yu sheng, grilled dish, karaage items, rice dish, soup and dessert, as well as Japanese sake for tossing and pairing.

There are a total of three carefully curated festive menus available this Chinese New Year starting from $333 (4-6 pax); $666 (6 to 8 pax); to $888 (8 to 10 pax).

The delectable offerings such as Tenderly Braised Pork Soft Rib Bone with Japanese Rice Cake and also the Japanese tuna sushi, which features toro, chutoro and red meat.

Was pleasantly surprised at how tender the pork meat was, literally just falling off the bones. And really interesting how they use the Japanese rice cake, kind of like mochi texture in this dish.

The tuna sushi showcase the fresh seafood paired with Japanese rice and the right amounts of wasabi. I definitely want more than just this 2 pcs! :D

Another limelight of the festive menus is the Japanese yusheng tower. Of course we have to have yusheng since this is a Chinese New Year menu!

The yusheng  ingredients are gingerly stacked, layer by layer, to form a tower. Amaebi (sweet shrimp sashimi), tobiko (flying fish roe), kanpachi (Amberjack) and salmon are included. The yusheng comes in two sizes suitable for three to four pax ($66); and six to eight pax ($128).

Premium add-ons such as Hokkaido hotate, chutoro and ikura are available in medium (add $20) and large (add $40) sizes.

The dessert platter left me smiling, every bit of it was deliciously made and very authentic Japanese. Super soft matcha warabi mochi, soft dango balls served with auki beans, azuki daifuku with silky soft mochi skin and grilled dango balls.

I want the whole dessert plate to myself!

And the restuarant will be opened on the first day of Chinese New Year too!

Happy Chinese New Year in advance
